Cloudy with a chance of Kong!

Finally had some time to work on our #cloudywithachanceofdoodles community challenge!

A member of our community rdonarico donated a bunch of fantastic cloud photos in the discord for us to use for the challenge. We still have a couple days left in the challenge and if you guys are having a hard time finding cloud reference you can take a look at some of these: sta.sh/2ga1uqua9zc

This cloud shape immediately looked like a gorilla silhouette to me that was lit by a bright sun off to the right. This inspired the idea that KONG was gazing out at a city in distress while shielding his eyes from the intense sun. As a fun easter egg, the clouds in the sky are also from that photo set I linked above! I wanted to try to communicate scale with both atmosphere and use of recognizable elements. Having the buildings in front of him and especially the birds really help to communicate his massive size. Additionally I had to force myself to keep the values on KONG from going all the way to 100% black which helped to push him back a bit in space/atmosphere.

For those of you that haven't had a chance to work on this challenge yet, hopefully this opens your eyes to some possibilities! I wish I could have gotten this done sooner but this month has been a crazy one with our moving out of state and getting settled into our new normal.
