Shadow Dancers

Finished up this D&D commission of Lalé and Derrin who are based on lore from Forgotten Realms. They are instructors at a school for shadow dancing. Lalé is an aasimar elf and Derrin is a moon elf. I really wanted to try to capture what shadow magic might look like. At first everything was mostly black but I wanted to introduce a bit of color to the shadow magic and the shadow realm, so I used hints of violet and teal which I think works well. From what I understand, Lalé wasn’t always a shadow dancer and her wings had a much more angelic appearance before. I wanted to portray a hint of this angelic past with that back/rim lighting on her head and wings while still maintaining the shadow forms. This was a ton of fun to work on!
