Mortal Hugs

Mortal Kombat inspired commission I just finished for a community member of her and her dog Sky! When I was younger, I played one of the Mortal Kombat games, can’t remember which one, but it had been years since the last time I played one. Last year I started playing a bit of the new MK11 and loved it. Some parts of this character’s design are inspired pretty heavily by Netherrealm’s awesome characters in the new game, with the most obvious influence being scorpion, of course! Scorpion has always been one of those iconic and recognizable characters in the franchise and it was a lot of fun doing research on the character and seeing all the awesome work that’s been put into bringing him to life.⁠⠀The fun part about streaming art on twitch is that you can get live feedback on what you are working on and the chat always comes up with such awesome ideas. Things like the armor on the dog, the blue flames, the addition of the whip/chain, and even the beads in her hair were all suggestions from the chat that really helped to pull this image together.
